Ghost Ship Legends

The waters off of Newfoundland and Labrador are often hostile – and according to legend, haunted.

This talk will discuss the stories of the coast, in which history is woven through with folklore, and the spirits of lost ships and sailors are said to return. The Ghost Ship Map of Newfoundland and Labrador brings archival material to life by presenting legends from local communities in visual and interactive form.

Our Speaker, Karin Murray-Bergquist, is a PhD student in folklore at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Along with her studies in the field of ghost ship legends in the region, she is an actor, artist, and writer. She is the writer and producer of the ocean podcast The Deeps, and one half of the Practical Fantasists creative team, writing short stories, poems, and plays.

Support and donate

In these very uncertain times, your continued support of the Maritime Museum is more important than ever. Covid 19 has put a financial strain on the Museum. We are a non-profit organisation that would normally rely on ticket sales, membership income and other sources. As we have shut our doors temporarily, these sources of income have all dried up.

Please help us safeguard the museum by becoming a member, renewing your membership, or making a donation today.

Our work still goes on, so we really need your help to get us through this difficult time. Please consider making a donation, if you are in a position to do so, so we can continue our work when our doors reopen.
