A Talk on Ernest Shackleton

“….Get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton…..”

Kevin Kenny, organiser of the annual Shackleton Autumn School, will give an overview of Ernest Shackleton’s life, from childhood in Ireland through his extraordinary exploits and what he got up to when he wasn’t battling the Polar elements. Everybody knows a piece about Shackleton, the intention of this talk is to build the person around that piece of knowledge.

Shackleton was a multifaceted and in many ways contradictory character whose Irish Quaker roots cast a large influence on his life and his major achievements. Despite failing to achieve the objectives of his expeditions, he has reached iconic status for his determination, leadership and decision making.

This is a virtual talk via Zoom.

Support and donate

In these very uncertain times, your continued support of the Maritime Museum is more important than ever. Covid 19 has put a financial strain on the Museum. We are a non-profit organisation that would normally rely on ticket sales, membership income and other sources. As we have shut our doors temporarily, these sources of income have all dried up. Please help us safeguard the museum by becoming a member, renewing your membership, or making a donation today. Our work still goes on, so we really need your help to get us through this difficult time. Please consider making a donation, if you are in a position to do so, so we can continue our work when our doors reopen.
