Wreath laying ceremony 12:00 hrs at the City Quay Memorial on Sunday 17th November 2019 followed by light refreshments in Stella Maris SeafarersCentre 3 Beresford Place.
The wreath-laying event at 12.00 noon along the City Quay Memorial monument, is dedicated in honor of Seafarers lost at sea while serving on Irish Merchant ships during WW2.
Inscribed on the Memorial are names of merchant vessels and crews who lost their lives as battles raged in the Atlantic and surrounding seas, while Irish seafarers tried to ensure vital supplies of food reached our shores despite our neutrality. Among the casualties of war was Irish Shipping Ltd’s cargoship, Irish Pine which departed Dublin bound for Boston, USA, however all 33 crew were lost when the ship sank following a U-Boat torpedo attack in mid-November 1942.

Pat Coldrick is an Irish Classical Guitarist and Composer, who has been working for the last six years in Ireland but has also performed Recitals in Europe, the USA and Russia. Pat has been described as ‘pushing the boundaries of classical guitar’ with his musical interpretations and compositions and has made Classical Guitar exciting, interesting and more accessible to music lovers in general. Through his interpretation of music and by exploring and embracing new technologies he strives to enhance the dynamics of the classical guitar and bring his music to a wider audience both at home and abroad.
His music defies genre and appeals to a wide cross section of music lovers. While Pat plays his own arrangements of great classical pieces, it is his own compositions that sets him apart – pieces such as Lament, CityJam and Antarctica to name but a few. Pat’s skillful and atmospheric connection with his audience is an art form in itself and is in total contrast to other more formal classical performances. He has a very easy going, laid back and unassuming approach and his interaction with the audience and philosophy of ‘entertaining’ rather than ‘educating’ his listeners is a breath of fresh air.
He recently played in the national Concert Hall with the RTE symphony Orchestra.
This is going to be an interesting eveing whereby Joan is going to give an illustrated talk of some of her recent races including the current race she is taking part in.La Solitaire Urgo de Figaro. Joan is hoping to compete in the 2020 edition of the Vendee Globe, a non stop around the World race. Joan Will be introduced by Enda O Coineen. it is also an evening for Joan’s current and future sponsors to hear her very intersting story so far
