Lecture to be held Thursday, October 18th 2012 in Stella Maris

John Treacy is a naval historian undertaking a PhD at Mary
immaculate College. A former Irish Naval Service Cadet, the subject of
John’s doctoral research is ‘An operational history of Irish Naval
service vessels 1946-84′. To date he has completed extensive archival
research at the National Military Archives, National Archives of
Irleand, UK National Archives, Glasgow City Archives and the HMCS
Sackville museum in Halifax, NS.

John has undertaken some oral history interviews with some Naval
Association members who has served on the Corvettes and he hopes to
continue this and expand the scope of these interviews to include the
‘Tons’ and Deirdre-class.

In addition to researching for his PhD John also teaches history
tutorials at Mary Immaculate College as a member of the Department of
History under the supervision of Dr. Maura Cronin.
