Stories of Irish seafarers

Stories of Irish seafarersMany exhibits in our museum tell the story of individual seamen, captains of historic ships, heroes who helped rescue others, or brave men who lost their lives as their ship was sunk during war time. There are also sections dedicated to modern day seafarers, like the crews of the Irish life boats, such as the one based in Dun Laoghaire, just around from the museum. As part of our school outreach, we are also associated with the Follow the Fleet programme, which follows the live movements of the Irish naval fleet.

The Institute members also regularly take part in commemorative events, many of which you can also find in our calendar.
