I enjoyed the lecture by Edmond Bourke on French expeditions.. There were two French landings in S. Wales and it was at the second one that they mistook Wesl women for guards

Just as a matter of interest, rolls of leather from the Bolivar were washed up on the beach at Shankill, Co. Dublin. One of these was taken out of the water before it hit the beach by Benjy Russell of Ballycorus, Kilternan. From this he had made a set of motor cycle racing leathers. He was killed in an accident while leading the Junior Manx Grand Prix in September 1947 while wearing these leathers.

I remember hoards of people down at the beach at Shankill collecting cargo being washed up. The Garda were there from the station at Shankill, they turned a blind eye if the stuff was taken by a known local but "foreigners" were pursued and caught if their load hindered their escape. Those were the days!

Have you any information about what happened to the Lady Olive after "she stuck rock in Lough Corrib 1872?"
There is a photograph of Lady Olive (steamer yacht) in the Galway Advertiser of 12th November 1998. They state the photo is c 1880 and is attributed to the National Library. Check out:
