Belfast Commemoration

The annual commemoration for those who have no grave but the sea, will be held in Belfast on Sunday 13 May 2012.  Hosted by the Merchant Navy Association of Northern Ireland.  Some members of the MII will travel.  If you wish, contact us via the museum shop in the Shopping Center.

17 October Lismullen Lecture

The next maritime lecture at Lismullen institute (Situated on N4 about 8 miles on Dublin side of Navan) is scheduled for Wednesday 17th October 2012 at 8.00 in Lismullin Conference Centre. The title is “Merchants and mariners of 16th Century Meath”. The speaker is Dr Fionnán Tuite from Dunshaughlin who has recently obtained his PhD from UCD School of History and Archives for a thesis on Meath in the 16th century. He gave a talk in Lismullin on Meath and the nine years war a few years ago. This is another aspect of his study.

Admiral Brown’s Death: 155th Anniversary Ceremony. MII pays homage to the Mayo Admiral.
Today, March the 3rd, a ceremony took place at the Recoleta Cemetery (Buenos Aires, Argentina), in order to commemorate the 155th anniversary of William Brown’s passing.
